Why Sera exists

Built from a problem practitioners recognise.

Sera began with a personal problem. Managing Hashimoto's meant tracking comprehensive blood work across laboratories, countries, units, reference intervals, and years. The data was available, but the story was scattered.

That same problem appears in functional and integrative practices every day. Practitioners review complex blood panels from multiple laboratories, then reconstruct a client's history manually across PDFs, portals, spreadsheets, and notes.

Sera brings those results together into one structured workspace for blood-work review. The practitioner brings the clinical context and judgement; Sera keeps the data, history, and trends organised.

I built Sera as a software engineer who needed a clearer way to work with complex blood-work data — and who saw the same problem in practitioner workflows.

The problem

Blood-work review should not require rebuilding the client history every time.

Results arrive as PDFs, portal exports, spreadsheets, and individual lab reports. Units differ between countries. Panels change from visit to visit. Trends disappear inside the paperwork.

Every client arrives with a different stack of PDFs. Medichecks, Quest, Thriva, an NHS printout, a panel run three years ago in another country. Before you can read anything you are re-keying it into a spreadsheet.

Units don't line up. One ferritin in µg/L, the next in ng/mL; glucose in mmol/L against a US panel in mg/dL. Converting by hand is the step where mistakes get made, and it happens before you have even started interpreting.

The trend is the finding, and it's the hardest thing to see. A fasting glucose that crept 4.6 → 5.3 across three panels is the conversation. Spread over three PDFs, it isn't visible at all.

Sera ranges are practitioner targets informed by conventional laboratory reference intervals, published clinical guidance, functional and longevity literature, and feedback from early functional and integrative practitioners.

Evidence strength varies by biomarker. Some entries reflect established clinical thresholds or published reference intervals; others are narrower functional or longevity targets, practitioner targets, exploratory indices, or markers without a universal range.
